Ghost Drawing Step by Step: How to Draw an Easy Ghost
Have you ever wanted to draw your very own adorable ghost? Today, I’ll show you how to create an easy, cute ghost inspired by the charming character from Gustavo the Shy Ghost, a heartwarming children’s book by Flavia Z. Drago. Gustavo, a shy little ghost, longs to make friends but is extremely shy. Through vibrant illustrations and a touching story, the book teaches the importance of courage and being yourself. Gustavo’s sweet and timid nature makes him the perfect inspiration for a ghost drawing that’s both fun and easy!

Step by Step Tutorial
Appropriate for Children Ages 5 and up
Difficulty: Easy
Total Time: 20 minutes
Materials:
- Ghost Drawing Guide (Optional)
- Micron Pens for outlining your owl, or you could also use Ultra Fine Point colored Sharpie markers/fine tip markers
- White Cardstock or blank paper (8 1/2 X 11″)
- Pencil for drawing
- Markers/pencil crayons etc. for coloring (optional)
- Eraser
Instructions:
Step 1 – Draw the outline of your ghost.
Draw an an upside down “U” with a squiggly line to create the shape of your ghost.
Step 2 – Draw the eyes
One of Gustavo’s most endearing features is his big, expressive eyes. Draw two large circles near the upper part of the body. Make sure they’re spaced out enough to leave room for Gustavo’s bashful expression!
To make them extra cute, add a small white circle in each eye for a highlight. You can also draw thin, 2 straight lines for the eyebrows to give your ghost a shy or playful look—just like Gustavo!
Color your eyes black.
Step 3: Draw the mouth
Gustavo’s shy nature is captured perfectly by his small, simple mouth. Draw a soft curved line beneath the eyes, resembling a gentle smile.
Step 4 - Draw the arms
Gustavo’s arms are simple, rounded shapes that float on top of his body. Draw two curved lines facing each other. These arms can be raised up, as if Gustavo is saying “hello,” or gently lowered for a more peaceful look.
Step 5 – Add blush
To make your ghost extra cute, add two small blush marks below the eyes—little ovals or circles to show he’s shy. You can use a pink pencil crayon or crayon.
Step 6: Personalize Your Ghost!
Feel free to get creative! You can add some shading, a little hat, a bow tie, or even give Gustave a shy expression by tilting his eyes slightly or drawing him peeking out from behind something. Play around with different facial expressions to match his adorable personality.
