Easy Ghost Craft - Gustavo the Shy Ghost

The moment I read this beautiful picture book, Gustavo the Shy Ghost, I knew without a doubt that I had to create a ghost craft inspired by this timid and talented ghost.

This story really resonated with me because Gustavo and my daughter Chanel have a lot in common. Both have a hard time making new friends, both are sometimes shy and anxious in social situations, and both are talented musicians. Maybe you know a child who can relate as well.

This easy ghost craft is fun to make and really highlights Gustavo’s bright and beautiful personality. All you need are a few simple materials! Keep reading to follow along with our step by step tutorial.

Gustavo Ghost Craft

Inspired by the picture Book, Gustavo the Shy Ghost

Gustavo the Shy Ghost is an enchanting and heartwarming picture book that beautifully weaves a story about courage, friendship, and self-acceptance. Flavia Z. Drago’s vibrant and whimsical illustrations bring Gustavo’s world to life, filled with charming details that captivate both young readers and adults alike.

Gustavo, a shy ghost who loves music and playing the violin, longs to be noticed by others and make friends. However, his timidity often holds him back. The journey of Gustavo finding the courage to express himself and connect with others is told with such sweetness and sincerity that it’s impossible not to root for him.

The author, Flavia Z. Drago delicately touches on themes like social anxiety and loneliness, but with an uplifting and hopeful tone. The message of embracing who you are and reaching out, even when it’s scary, is wonderfully conveyed through Gustavo’s journey. The book not only encourages children to be brave and true to themselves but also teaches empathy toward those who might struggle with shyness or being different.

Overall, Gustavo the Shy Ghost is a beautifully illustrated, tender, and uplifting tale that resonates with anyone who has ever felt invisible or nervous about fitting in. It’s a perfect read for young readers, especially those who need a reminder that being themselves is more than enough.

Step 3 - Draw Gustavo

Using a pencil, draw your cute ghost on white cardstock. I started by drawing the body of the ghost, then I drew the eyes, mouth, and arms.

The cute ghost that we drew for this Gustavo craft can be found in our step-by-step drawing tutorial. You can download the free PDF HERE or check out this blog post for more detailed instructions.

Step 4 - Add Details to the ghost and cut out.

You can outline your ghost using a sharpie. Then use a pink pencil crayon to add cheeks to your cute ghost. You can then use a black crayon to add a few shadows as well. Cut out your ghost!
