Did you know that several scientific studies suggest that doodling is an excellent activity for enhancing creativity, improving concentration, and regulating moods in both kids and adults? Keep reading to learn more.
3 Benefits of Doodling
1. Enhanced Creativity
Bringing out the inner doodler can be a great method to spark creativity. Doodling may be a great method to spark your imagination and fuel your escape when you find yourself stuck on a task or assignment. Due to the happy feelings we get when doodling, it can foster creativity because it gives us a chance to approach tasks from a different angle.
2. Better Concentration
The Andrade’s study, which looked at how doodling related to listening, established a connection between doodling and focus. The study discovered that doodling activates the brain’s “executive resources,” which refers to the mental operations that let us multitask, focus, and make plans. In other words, drawing prevents our minds from wandering off to think about our next vacation, during class or a meeting.
3. Mood Regulation
In 2017, Drexel University researchers in Philadelphia looked at participants’ brain activity during three types of creative self-expression – coloring, free hand drawing, and doodling.
Doodling in particular stimulated the reward circuits in the brain, as did the other two types of art-making. According to the researchers, “creating art may be a strategy to control mood [and] addictive behaviors.”
